Please help us welcome the newest members, mother & son, to The RVR Family! They will become RVR Ambassadors and part of our future therapy program.
Their story: While doing a pre-adoption property inspection the two minis were observed on a neighboring property. It was obvious to our team the senior mare was in serious need of medical intervention and her deformed colt was going to require long term care.
The owner's spouse has some major health issues and is unable to properly care for them while her husband works out of state for long periods of time.. He tried to place the two minis with several neighbors but was not successful. One of the neighbors contacted the owner and shared our concerns and desire to help these two. The owner was grateful for our intervention and signed them over to us to remain in our care.
RVR Horse Rescue
RVR Horse Rescue is an all-volunteer organization that is recognized for taking on the worst cases of abuse, neglect and injury. Founded in 2004, RVR earned its 501(c)3 designation in 2011. From its beginning serving the Tampa Bay area, RVR has grown to respond throughout the state of Florida. Our mission is five-fold:
Rescue: RVR removes horses from the worst environments of abuse and neglect. Our experience dealing with injuries also makes us an ideal place for racing Thoroughbreds that must retire due to injury.
Rehabilitation: RVR's dedicated volunteers work under the supervision of veterinarians to being these horses back to health.
Re-home: Once rehabilitation is complete, RVR adopts the horses into loving homes.
Sanctuary: Adoption is our ultimate goal for every horse that comes to RVR, but age and infirmities sometimes make it harder. RVR is committed to every horse that comes through its gates and does not euthanize for space. Any horse that is not adopted will live out its days in the loving care of volunteers.
Hospice: Some horses arrive too late to be saved. Others develop illnesses or of advanced age. These horses are given the best care to keep them comfortable until they cross the rainbow bridge.
